To be precise, SSC CGL exam is conducted by Staff Selection Board (SSC) for all graduates in India for various posts in many Government organizations and departments. On the other hand, Bank PO is an exam which is conducted by IBPS and SBI for their banks and associate banks.

As far as similarities are concerned, both of them are prestigious Government jobs which provide good salary packages, perks and incentives but the roles and responsibilities of personnel’s are different. If you want to gain administrative power with good social status then you should opt for SSC CGL. On contrary, if you aim to earn much with good promotional prospects then you should go for Bank PO.

Let us discus the differences between these two jobs.

According to personal experiences, it is experienced that SSC jobs are more professionally satisfying than Bank PO jobs.
The Bank PO’s have to frequently face work pressure and can be posted anywhere in India. To achieve targets, they have to work on holidays also and sometimes have to stay back to finish their allotted work. In SSC jobs, there is no work burden on the employees.

The job profile of Bank PO is very sensitive as they have to deal with monetary issues of customers. In SSC jobs, the profile is more of administrative matters and not as sensitive as that of Bank PO.
In SSC jobs, the employees enjoy powerful status while Bank PO does not have any power.
Even low ranked post SSC officers enjoy the designation of Gazette officers while Bank POs are not Gazette officers.

In Bank PO jobs, the employee can be posted anywhere in India, even in rural or remote areas but in SSC jobs, there is less possibilities.

In SSC jobs, the promotions happen every 4-5 years. For instance, Auditor can become Senior Auditor in 3 years; Income Tax Officer will become Assistant Commissioner, then Deputy Commissioner and Finally Commissioner etc. In Bank PO jobs, the promotions happens in 2-3 years in the following scale- •           PO-Assistant Manager-Branch Manager-AGM-GM.

To cut a long story short, Bank PO jobs can never be better than SSC jobs for many good reasons. SSC jobs deliver you a good and powerful social status in society besides job security and generous salary packages. In future, the work pressure for Bank PO’s will be increasing because of digital banking and schemes like “Jan Dhan Yojana”, which promises opening of billions of bank accounts nationwide. So, it all depends on your priorities and choices in life, whether to opt for Bank PO or SSC job as career option.
