What is Language Proficiency Test or Regional Language Test in SBI Clerk (2018) Junior Assistant Recruitment?

SBI has just released the notification for SBI Clerk 2018 (Junior Assistant) to recruit 8301 employees for its various branches all over India. This year the exam pattern has been changed by introducing sectional time limit and Language Proficiency Test (LPT). It is the last phase which an aspirant who has qualified Phase I and Phase II. LPT is the qualifying test and is an integral part of the recruitments of almost all clerical or assistant level exams.
Significance of keeping Language Proficiency Test is that after joining as a Junior Assistant or SBI Clerk, one has to deal with the local people of the particular state which requires a proper knowledge of the local language. Therefore, it is a qualifying exam and is held at the end after Prelims and Mains.
LPT is a subjective test in which a passage is given on any cause, topic or issue in the regional language and some questions are given based on it.  Answers to the given questions can only be given if a candidate has understood the passage and the language in which the passage is written.
The answers written by the candidates in the subsequent language will help the bank authorities to determine the language ability in terms of reading, writing and speaking the particular language.
LPT test may be followed by an oral test to analyze the fluency of the regional language. In this test language ability is more analyzed than the accuracy of the answer. The more fluent you are in the regional language the better are the chances for you to get selected in this final round. It is going to work as an asset for the bank if you are well versed in the local language as you have to deal with local person to help and assist them on daily basis.
The reason behind it being a QUALIFYING TEST for the post of SBI CLERK 2018 ( Junior Assistant) is that they need a candidate who is good in the particular regional language in which he or she is going to be posted.
